MAR DE GRISES – Re-Sign with Season of Mist for a Chile-Inspired Fourth Album

Chile’s contrasting landscapes inform the next chapter for MAR DE GRISES, who have re-signed with Season of Mist for their fourth album. In its October 22, 2026 announcement, the label says the record will arrive next year, making it the band’s first new album since 2010’s Streams Inwards. A teaser accompanies the news; the forthcoming album’s title and exact release date have not been announced.

The band describe the new material through its connection to their home country. “Once again, with our new album, we are pushing the boundaries of genre,” they say. “These new songs are dark and cinematic, born from the contrasts of Chile’s landscape, which stretches from the Andes to the Pacific, from the Atacama Desert to Tierra del Fuego.”

That relationship extends beyond the new songs. Formed in 2000, MAR DE GRISES play progressive death-doom with a melodic and cinematic approach, according to the background supplied by Season of Mist. The label also identifies metropolitan Santiago, the Valdivian forests and Cape Horn among the Chilean settings that inspire the band.

The renewed agreement reconnects MAR DE GRISES with the label that released their third album, Streams Inwards. They previously worked with Finland’s Firebox Records before becoming, according to Season of Mist, its first South American signing. The announcement recounts tours with Sólstafir, Swallow the Sun and Saturnus, as well as festival appearances alongside Opeth, Enslaved and Katatonia.

Season of Mist also revisits the critical response to Streams Inwards, quoting Exclaim!’s description of the band as “singularly unique while raising the bar for contemporaries, like comparably brilliant groups such as Swans or Anathema before them”. The 2010 album remains available through the label. The order link supplied with this announcement concerns that existing release, rather than a preorder for the new record.

The album announcement comes ahead of two Santiago appearances: MAR DE GRISES will headline Cryptic Celebration VII at Teatro Cariola on October 30, 2026, before opening for Opeth at Movistar Arena on November 1, 2026.

The lineup listed in the announcement comprises Rodrigo Morris and Sergio Álvarez on guitars, Rodrigo Gálvez on bass, Juan Escobar on vocals and synths, and Pablo Martínez on drums. Supplied press photographs are credited to Sebastián Domínguez. Further details about the fourth album will follow, according to Season of Mist.
