DOLIENTE explores envy and loss on ‘Yellow Hyacinths,’ the final Floriografía single

Santiago’s DOLIENTE brings its conceptual EP Floriografía to its closing chapter with ‘Yellow Hyacinths’. Released on October 23 across digital platforms, the final single follows ‘Forever Grey,’ ‘Tempestades’ and ‘Heridas,’ completing the Chilean gothic rock and alternative metal project’s promotional cycle for the EP.

Written by Stefan (Esteban Cartes) and produced by Paulo Galleguillos, the ballad combines melancholy piano, orchestral arrangements, distorted guitars and electronic elements. Those textures frame a song about jealousy, betrayal and emotional deterioration, with death and oblivion also central to the announcement’s description.

The floral concept gives that subject a specific image. Drawing on the Victorian language of flowers, the song uses the yellow hyacinth to represent jealousy and stolen affection. Its narrator attempts to grow in poisoned ground, expressed in the lyric ‘I tried to bloom where nothing grows.’ Pain then takes root in the body and memory, carrying the narrative toward destruction.

‘With “Yellow Hyacinths,” we close this journey in which each flower names a loss,’ Stefan explains in the announcement, translated from Spanish. ‘The yellow hyacinth represents the corrosion of envy: the story of a body where pain takes root and consumes you.’

Established in Santiago de Chile in 2024, DOLIENTE is Stefan’s solo project. Its musical approach brings gothic rock and alternative metal together with orchestral passages and electronics, while its imagery draws on funerary aesthetics and late Romanticism. Grief, and its transformation into consolation and art, underpin that approach.

For live performances, Stefan is joined by musicians from Chile’s countercultural scene. ‘Yellow Hyacinths’ closes the project’s 2026 work on Floriografía and is available on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube.
