GARY SE QUEDA introduce Santiago mathcore project with ‘Memoria estancada’

Santiago band GARY SE QUEDA have introduced their recording project with ‘Memoria estancada’, the debut single and first preview of Sangre y polillas. The track is available on Spotify, while the debut EP is due in late 2026, moving between mathcore and pop punk with an ironic perspective on the absurdities of contemporary life.

The project began in 2024 as Gary 0.1 and reached its definitive form in 2026 with the arrival of vocalist Daniela Carrasco and bassist Byron Gracia. They join guitarists Osvaldo Franz Angel and Jaime Gajardo, and drummer Sebastián Fuentes. The single provides an initial introduction as the band seeks a place within Chile’s independent music circuit.

Mathcore forms the foundation of GARY SE QUEDA’s sound, alongside math rock, pop punk and progressive touches. The band cite Tricot, The Cabs, Otoboke Beaver and Tortuganónima among their influences. ‘Memoria estancada’ adds shoegaze and post-rock elements, with references to Forsaken Autumn and Siniestra Pandora.

The lyrics follow a female protagonist caught in the memory of a past moment, suspended between nostalgia and remorse. The source of her pain remains unclear: the band allow the emotional experience to emerge without directly explaining what caused it. That approach sits within a broader outlook in which the musicians seek comic turns and a more positive response even when addressing depressing subjects.

Their visual identity extends that mixture of everyday experience and fiction. A household refrigerator becomes a setting decorated with stuffed toys and colored lights, bringing the real and imagined together within the band’s world. GARY SE QUEDA describe their open-ended approach through a Schrödinger reference: in translation, ‘GARY SE QUEDA is Schrödinger’s band; it’s whatever you want it to be.’

‘This release is an important step; we’ve put a lot of care into it, and it’s been a long but enjoyable journey,’ the band said in the announcement, translated from Spanish.

Octavio Maldonado produced, mixed and mastered ‘Memoria estancada.’ Clever Vieira supplied the cover photography, with cover design by Francisca Calderón. The announcement was distributed by Agencia Frenétika, which promotes Chilean music.
