NGUTRAM Announce New Album “Heridas del Sur” for November

Chilean folk metal band Ngutram will release their new studio album, “Heridas del Sur,” in November. The 10-track record explores the history, landscapes and ancestral memory of southern Chile and Argentina, with four instrumental and ambient pieces woven into its narrative.

Formed in Santiago in 2017, Ngutram combine folk metal, instrumental metal and epic passages inspired by the history, mythology and Indigenous peoples of southern Chile and Patagonia. On “Heridas del Sur,” the band focuses on stories connected to the southern territories, including the dispossession of Indigenous lands and beliefs during the formation of Chile and Argentina.

Among the album’s tracks, “Cruces de Ciprés” draws on the Bajo Pisagua tragedy along the Baker River in Aysén, where hundreds of workers were abandoned to their fate in Patagonia. “Pewen” and “Tormenta Austral” explore different dimensions of the region’s natural world, reflecting its ancestral character and imposing, unforgiving landscapes.

The title track, “Heridas del Sur,” is a fast, chaotic instrumental piece that addresses the massacres in Magallanes and Tierra del Fuego during the establishment of sheep ranches.

Recording took place primarily during the week of November 27, 2023, at Romaphonic in Buenos Aires, followed by additional sessions in Santiago. Darío Llancaman handled mixing and mastering, with the process completed around July 2026.

“Heridas del Sur” marks a new chapter for Ngutram, connecting the band’s musical identity with territory, history and ancestral memory.
